Event on August 29, 2008 3:00pm to 8:00pm 523 N. Pines Rd. Spokane Valley Exhibit will be on display 08-29-08 thru 09-16-08 509-863-9125 The Last Friday of August sets the bar high for avant- garde art! Water color artist Billy Miles, who has been painting throughout his civilian and military life, will challenge viewers with his experimental and unconventional approach to his art. The Miles exhibition promises to delight all viewers! Years ago when Billy was finishing school, he dropped by a friend’s house to give him an old guitar. His friend reciprocated by handing him a box of acrylic paints. For the next 25 years Billy painted in acrylics, his interest ranging over subjects from landscapes and pet portraits to imaginative scenes of outer space. He experimented with watercolors from time to time but only became serious about the medium a year ago and he now paints almost exclusively in watercolors. Billy says, My subject matter and techniques continue to be varied. I enjoy combining abstract and realism in my paintings. I have a passion for painting airplanes, boats and science fiction images. Recently Billy has employed watercolor techniques in his science fiction imagery. The highlight of this month’s Last Friday opening is an extraordinary piece of art that quite literally goes through the roof of the gallery. We can attempt to describe it, but only you can experience it. First time to Spokane, Moses Lake Artist Robert Steele is Also being featured in this month’s LAST FRIDAY event. Steele has been showing his work through our Moses Lake and the surrounding area for the past several years. Steele uses color, design and texture in abstractions that will mesmerize the viewer. According to Steele, It's difficult to concentrate one’s efforts on one painting medium or style because I find using a diverse palette refreshing and inspirational." Steele maintains a studio in Moses Lake where he works in mixed media and creates art that incorporates paint with stones, dried grasses, cloth, wood, and stamps. His inspiration comes from photographs, memories, and music. "I'm partial to jazz, blues, and classical," he says. Typical pieces for Steele can be up to 4 x5 feet in dimension.
